The W. O.
Frohring Family Resource Center
sponsors various programs that
promote literacy, education, and
support of patients and caregivers and families.
The Rainbow Reader
is our in-patient monthly newsletter at Rainbow
Babies and Children's Hospital. There are articles of information
for
parents and activities for patients. We have a partnership with
the
Family Advisory Council of RB&C.
Ready
to Read and Help
Me Grow
Once per month we team up
with WVIZ/PBS through our
Bedside Reading
Program. Ready to Read is a service of WVIZ's
preschool
educational program, KidTV
on VIZ PREP. They are committed
to giving children the
opportunity to read and own their first new book. The primary
goal of Ready to Read
is to distribute new books to families in need. Ready to
Read strives
to attain its goal by creating partnerships with organizations
committed to supporting
literacy efforts. We are partnering with KidTV on VIZ PREP to
bring happy moments
to hospitalized children. KidTV on VIZ PREP knows that books
change lives. The
simple gesture of giving a child a new book creates a wonderful
ripple effect
of joy, self-esteem, family bonding and learning. Ready to
Read also supplies
educational materials for parents with their child's book. They
include information
on watching television wisely with your child, how to foster
language development and
offer parenting tips, activities for families and much more.
There are materials
available in the Family Resource Center for
parents to read and use. The books that
are distributed are written for children between the ages of 3
and 6. Each month
we offer a new book. Watch for posters advertising the date and
time that
our KidPREP trainers will be visiting your child's floor.
Help Me Grow workshops
are scheduled for parents, teachers and child care providers.
Our KidPREP trainers instruct in-patient and out-patient
caregivers within RB&C
during scheduled periodic workshops. Topics include: Help Me
Learn,
Help Me Work It Out, Help Me Be Safe and Help Me Be Healthy.

Programs provided to our RB&C patients by WVIZ/PBS and KidTV

and we thank them for their generosity.
